Lidl’s Chef Select High Protein Pizza Review

If you’re wondering whether Lidl’s high protein pizza is worth adding to your weekly meal prep or if it’s just another marketing gimmick dressed in mozzarella, this review is for you.

I grabbed the Chef Select High Protein Stonebaked Spicy Meat Feast Pizza from Lidl’s fridge recently, hoping for a protein-packed treat to crush a Friday night craving.

At £2.99, with 37g of protein and 592 calories, it looked like a decent macro-friendly option.

But does it live up to the hype?

Let’s dig in… literally.

What is the Chef Select High Protein Pizza from Lidl?

Lidl's High Protein Pizza box

Lidl’s Chef Select High Protein Pizza is a stonebaked frozen pizza that claims to pack in more protein than your average supermarket pizza.

The range currently includes two flavours: Spicy Meat Feast and Cheeseburger, each weighing in at 280g per pizza.

The Spicy Meat Feast version includes a pea protein-based base, tomato sauce, cooked chicken breast fillet, spicy beef, smoked ham, and mozzarella.

All the good stuff on paper.

Macros (per pizza):

  • Calories: 592
  • Protein: 37g
  • Fat: 20.7g
  • Carbs: ~64.4g

Price: £2.99

Cook time: 8–10 minutes

Is Lidl’s Chef Select High Protein Pizza actually high in protein?

Lidl's High Protein Pizza out of the box.

Yes… But with a caveat.

At 37g of protein per pizza, it’s a decent hit for anyone trying to get more protein in without smashing a tub of Greek yoghurt or necking a shake.

That said, I did hope it would push closer to the 45–50g range.

Still, compared to your typical frozen pizza (which might only offer 15–20g protein), this is a much better alternative for gym-goers or anyone watching their macros.

If you’ve ever tried fitting pizza into your fitness plan without blowing your calorie budget, you’ll know most pizzas are north of 1,200 calories. This one comes in under 600.

Not bad, Lidl. Not bad at all.

Does it look the part?

Lidl's High Protein Pizza cooked

Honestly? Yes.

The packaging is sharp, it proudly boasts “37g protein” like a badge of honour, and through the little see-through window, the toppings look solid.

You get a good scatter of ham, beef, and shredded chicken, plus the stonebaked base gives it that rustic look. It had potential.

What’s the texture and taste like once cooked?

This is where things went downhill.

The pizza looked great going into the oven, and after 10 minutes, it came out still looking the part… until the first bite.

It was dry.

Sahara Desert dry.

The lack of tomato sauce and cheese really stood out. The toppings were there, but the flavour was missing. I found myself reaching for ketchup just to help it go down.

I ended up adding my own cheese just to rescue it. A pizza shouldn’t need first aid.

The crust was decent, but the overall experience felt like a letdown. Like it wanted to be good… but missed the mark.

Is Lidl’s Chef Select High Protein Pizza worth buying for gym-goers?

If you’re cutting and craving pizza, this might do the job just enough.

You’ll stay on track with your calories and protein, and at £2.99, it won’t wreck your food budget either.

But if you’re hoping for a Friday night fakeaway that actually satisfies the itch, you might be disappointed. The macros are solid, but the taste doesn’t quite hold up.

Especially compared to what we know pizza can be.

Is the Cheeseburger flavour any better?

I haven’t tried it yet… But I’m adding it to my shopping list. Based on the Spicy Meat Feast, my expectations are tempered.

But I’m holding out hope the cheeseburger version will have a bit more sauce and, well, cheese.

Fingers crossed.

The pros and cons of Lidl’s Chef Select High Protein Pizza

Pros

  • Great price (£2.99)
  • Good protein hit (37g)
  • Low-ish calories for a pizza (592)
  • Cooks in 10 minutes
  • Handy high-protein option for lazy days

Cons

  • Too dry
  • Barely any cheese or tomato sauce
  • Doesn’t scratch that proper pizza itch
  • You’ll probably want to add toppings

My personal verdict

Lidl's High Protein Pizza in a box.

As someone who’s been in the gym game for over 15 years, I’m always on the lookout for high-protein swaps that make dieting feel less like punishment.

I wanted to love this. And on paper, it ticks most of the boxes.

But food’s not just about macros, it’s about taste, texture, and satisfaction.

Sadly, this pizza didn’t hit the spot.

Still, for £2.99, you can’t expect restaurant quality. And if you’re happy to doctor it with extra cheese or sauce, it could be a decent quick-fix meal.

Just don’t expect magic out the box.

Lidl’s Chef Select High Protein Pizza Nutrition breakdown (based on macronutrients)

Let’s break the 592 calories down:

  • Protein (37g): 148 calories
  • Fat (20.7g): 186.3 calories
  • Carbs (64.4g): 257.7 calories

This gives you a fairly balanced macro split if you’re tracking:

  • Protein: 25%
  • Fat: 31%
  • Carbs: 44%

Not bad for a pizza.

Worth trying once. But don’t pin your meal prep dreams on it.

Final thoughts on Lidl’s Chef Select High Protein Pizza

Lidl’s Chef Select High Protein Pizza shows they’re trying to cater to the fitness crowd and I love to see it. It’s not perfect, but it’s a step in the right direction.

I’ll give the Cheeseburger version a go and report back.

Just keep the ketchup handy.
